This evening, I felt led to ask myself a question that I couldn’tl get beyond without facing a harsh reality.
I had to get real honest with Melanie.
If there were a church full of people just like me running around, what would it look like?
And even more sobering, would there even be a church?
Would new ministries ever get started?
Homeless ministry?
Prison ministry?
Children’s ministry?
Corporate prayer?
Would people gather to pray at all?
Would the gifts God has placed within His people be used or get quietly buried?
Or would careers, comfort, busyness, exhaustion, and personal pursuits consistently receive more time and energy than the work of God’s Kingdom?
I knew I couldn’t look around and compare my ability or efforts to another.
This was on me.
I don’t ask these questions to place guilt on anyone else.
I ask them because I first had to ask them of myself.
What would happen if there were a hundred Melanies running around?
Would the Kingdom advance because of my example?
Or would opportunities be missed because I stayed within the boundaries of what was playing it safe, comfortable, familiar, or convenient?
I’ll be honest, I felt conviction.
The kind that reminds me there is still more room to surrender, and more willingness to serve.
Help me, Melanie, to do better Lord.
I want my life to be so poured out for the Kingdom of God, that the world becomes unrecognizably more and more like the image of Jesus Christ, and not this ‘ole world.
I want to invest in what is eternal, not merely what is temporary.
When my days are finished, I don’t want my greatest accomplishments to be measured by titles, or popularity, possessions, or earthly success.
I want them to be measured by my faithfulness, obedience, and lives touched for the glory of God.
Lord, let my works be those that endure the fire (1 Corinthians 3:12–15).
Both teach and strengthen me to spend my time, my strength, my gifts, and every breath You’ve given me on what has eternal value.
Let my life be a living sacrifice unto You and bring You praise, worship, honor and glory.
In Jesus name.
