Today as I was speaking to God about my son and worrying over recent events…. I was reminded of Abraham’s sacrifice.

He laid his son, Isaac down sacrificially, BY FAITH, on the altar.

I had to pray, “God I lay my son on the altar. He belongs to You. Do What You must. Please save his soul.”

I have to take my hands off the situation. I needed to do that long ago but sometimes our love gets in the way. 

Our desires to see an outcome that we expect, get in the way.

It does not mean I have abandoned my responsibility to pray for my son.   It only means I leave the outcome to God, knowing His will is best, ever praying, “Your will be done, Lord.”

I recall to mind that the Lord’s thoughts and ways are higher than my own.  That what I perceive to be the right way, or answer, may not look even remotely like what God has planned or purposed.

Then I must ask myself, do I trust God enough to leave my son on the altar to do as He sees fit?

Do I love God enough to obey His Word in casting all my cares upon Him, no matter the cost?

The truth is, we all come to a place where we must lay our “sons”, “daughters”, “fill in the blank” down upon the altar like Abraham did for Isaac, in faith, knowing God’s will and ways are always best.

Truth tells me our Lord is faithful. (1 Corinthians 1:9, 1 Thessalonians 5:24, Lamentations 3:22–23)

Even when it’s uncomfortable.

He must be Lord over ALL our lives, even unto the sacrifice of self and those we love. For “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21, Luke 12:34.)

So today…

I lay my “Isaac” down upon the altar and trust that what God did for Abraham, He is more than able to do for me. 

Is it easy? No.

But I trust the One who goes before me and makes the crooked places straight…and breaks in pieces the gates of bronze and cuts the bars of iron…

His Word is my guide… as a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
